After the holiday rush, the holiday havoc, and after the New Years hangovers, there are those fateful New Years resolutions we’re all trying to up hold.  Hold tight and  enjoy ringing in the new year diving deep into some delicious bass music; helping you groove into 2012.

Beat Church is a ten year running bi- weekly event that kicks off on the first and third Thursdays of every month.  January 5th is the first Beat Church for 2012.  Starting the year off right with cutting edge sounds from yours truly, the don king of lovestep, Gladkill.  Originally hailing from the Big Apple aka NYC, when this man made his way out west he was smitten.  Gladkill now resides in Los Angeles where the young producer fits nicely alongside fellow Headtron artists.

Gladkill will be spinning side by side with fellow bass, booty shakin’ makers: SideCar Tommy from the eminent Beats Antique, EL PAPACHANGO from El Circo, Wolfbitch a fierce and nothing but glamorous San Francisco native, Mihkal a close affiliate of Gladkills, Kitty-D and Neptune, Beat Church accomplices that make it boom [literally].

Don’t miss this event, its going to be the biggest bash following the lavish New Years soirees we will all be attending.

Two Rabbits Studios, a graphic design and print studio run by two local LA artists Bob Motown and Mike Thacker, have been steadily pumping out posters, prints and art since late 2007. Two Rabbits specializes in fine art printing, graphic design, and illustration. Producing eye-popping visual treats almost everyone can enjoy has come easy for these two, thus making a name for themselves in the concert poster world has been no problem. Utilizing their dynamic personalities and unique design methods, Two Rabbits has won the hearts and eyes of hundreds of people across the country. With over 150 prints under their belts in just 2 years, they show no signs of stopping. But the duo’s success doesn’t end at prints, they have also curated art shows, coordinated events, designed many different products, constantly collaborate with a large number of artists and most recently have delved into the world of fine art. Fringe & The Loft Salon are proud to be the hosts of Two Rabbit’s first solo showing of fine art in addition to the prints that have made them a success.

The Fringe art series is a unique collaboration between The Site UnScene and The Loft Salon featuring curated collections playing on the concept of marginalized society in it’s various forms and features some of the best and brightest new and established artists across Los Angeles. DSSF: You are responsible for designing a range of accessories, including jewelry, scarves, and various wraps. Is there a medium you prefer to work with?
RWD: At the moment my favorite medium to focus on is Jewelry. But at the same time I am constantly trying to incorporate my abstract style in painting into the designs as well. Keeping things as organic and unique as possible.

DSSF: How do you begin designing a jewelry piece?
RWD: Different energy I catch on a daily basis. People inspire me, things I dream up inspire me. I have allot of inspiration from the hidden natural world. Then of course world style inspires me. Every on this planet decorating themselves differently is a huge inspiration.

DSSF: What is your process behind designing the wraps?
RWD: The Fur Wraps and Headdresses are all hand made by myself using sewing and stitching techniques that keep them strong enough for your cousin Randy to get down on a couple of mud slides without having them rip off. The fur wraps are all uniquely died and the new feather headdresses all use recycled jean material (thank you joe’s) and vintage fabric I find around the city, usually at estate sales. Then the magic all happens when you piece together the color combinations.

DSSF: Who do you design for?
RWD: You. Who ever you may be. Really. I wanted to make things as gifts for people like you to have for yourself, or give as a gift to someone else. There is nothing like a hand made, NICE gift, and if you can find something that speaks to you then you can feel great about giving it as a gift while simultaneously supporting the artist.

DSSF: How did you first get into designing?
RWD: I watched my mother ‘decorate herself’ when I was a child and it stuck. We as humans love to decorate ourselves in unique ways. Our homes too. It’s our style, and it’s totally normal for it to change constantly, thus giving me the drive to constantly design beautiful things.

DSSF: Which designers inpsire you?
RWD: Many, many designers. I have a great respect and admiration for true, hard working artists that pour their weirdness, dirty sweat and tears into their pieces. Many artists. Many elderly artist inspire me actually too. They seem to have attained the wisdom in which takes years and years of creativity. And they seem pretty happy, or just far out. This inspires me. Past success, present creativity, future contentment.

DSSF: Aside from designing, what are you passionate about?
RWD: Travel. I enjoy traveling. There’s nothing else like it. You can’t take anything that will give you that feeling of “you’re on your own now.” It’s a a doorway to the natural self.

DSSF: Are you responsible for the photography on your blog?
RWD: Yes. I LOVE photography. I love all that goes into it. All those girls (so far) are friends of mine too. I am blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people all the time.

DSSF: You are based out of Northern California currently, is that where you originally are from?
RWD: Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I was born on Nantucket and grew up in Harwich. Small gyspy living where summers are busy and winters are full of secret beaches and sea shells.

DSSF: What inspires your designs?
RWD: Animals, ethnic wardrobe, salt water fish, the bohemian beach lifestyle an Geometry.

DSSF: Are you involved in any other creative outlets?
RWD: Most of what you could think up I can say I have taken part of. Painting has always been a creative outlet. I had a year long project I called 365 days of painting that I was working on for a while but recently took a beak from that. You can google it or just visit my blog. Ceramics holds a big piece of my heart and then Print making is a secret passion I’ve had for years.

DSSF: What materials do you work with?
RWD: Loads of different beads. Most are recycled from buckets of jewelry thrown away. Useful vintage material is always wonderful. Brass is my more used material as it does not tarnish. You can create something beautiful without having to break the bank too.

DSSF: How long does it take to design a new product from conception to finish?
RWD: There are three stages of the process. Figuring out what it is I want to make tangible, working on it, then editing it. It can take months to figure out the perfect way to make something. Plus every day it gets better.

Last week Radiohead released the first edition of their newspaper, The Universal Sigh. Featuring short stories, art, and poetry, the newspaper was designed to help promote upcoming release of their new album, The King of Limbs. The newspaper, which seems very similar to a zine, is available for free at various locations. To our neighbors in San Francisco, you can try to snag a copy at Amoeba Records in the upper Haight. However, I doubt there will be any left. The Universal Sigh was met with much enthusiasm from die-hard Radiohead fans who were lined up outside. For those of you who aren’t willing to wake up early for a Radiohead zine, don’t worry. There is PDF version circulating the net which is easy find and download.

In other Radiohead news, The King of Limbs, was dropped last Monday. The album was met with mixed reviews. What do you all think of it?

Today Google announced Gmail Motion a feature designed to replace the mouse and keyboard. While motion detecting technology seems to be all the rage, I can’t help but think this is an April Fools Day prank. Check out the video for yourself.

This month the Beastie Boys announced that their long anticipated album TheHotSauceCommitteePartTwo will be released May 3, 2011. The Beastie Boys have not dropped a new album since 2004’s To The Five Burroughs. Earlier this year the new album’s release was postponed due to Adam Yauch’s (MCA) battle with cancer. In a January interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Yauch stated that “reports of my being totally cancer free are exaggerated.”

Despite Yauch’s health concerns, the group is moving forward with the album. Be sure to check out the cover art. Clean!

Toro y Moi is the solo project of Chazwick Bundick, who just happens to be BFF’s with Washed Out. Don’t know who Washed Out (aka Ernest Greene) is? You probably recognize his best known song, Feel It All Around, which also is the theme song for Portlandia.
